Proyecto Colmena

Colmena's main objective is to optimize the development, implementation and management of reliable services in the domains of IoT, Edge and Cloud.
Starting in January 2023 and lasting for the next 30 months, the Colmena project will pursue the following:

By promoting the autonomy of each device, Colmena extends the current cloud computing model by promoting collaborative environments to improve system efficiency.

The project proposes important technological advances
in the field of swarm computing:

1. a pioneering programming model that
facilitates the development of services

that provide fully decentralized orchestration

Use case

Our goal is to integrate efficiently renewable energy sources into the electricity grid
Once centralized power grids are changing with the integration of renewable energy, electric vehicles, and storage systems. New, highly controllable and programmable power converters are replacing synchronous generators. This allows the grid to be optimized, increasing its flexibility and resilience to dynamic events.

By using Colmena, the prototype will be able to improve the current performance of the electrical grid

Rebuilding the network after contingencies that compromise its resilience
Optimizing the operation to minimize costs, but at the same time considering technical criteria (electrical losses, voltage profiles, line overload)
Continuously improving stability against severe contingencies (such as short circuits)
Maximizing the inter-area

Anticipating possible line overloads and ensuring the robustness of the system despite losing any component

Partners

eRoots Analytics is a technology startup focused on offering consulting services and providing software solutions in the context of modern energy systems. eRoots’ ultimate goal is to be at the forefront of developing tools to drive the transition to highly sustainable electrical networks.

In the Colmena project, eRoots will be responsible for creating a prototype in the energy domain that will be able to validate the innovative capabilities implemented in the resulting platform.

With extensive experience in advanced computing, security, artificial intelligence, cloud and digital platforms in more than 47 countries, Eviden expands the possibilities of data and technology, now, and for future generations.

Eviden participates in the Colmena project to develop some components necessary for an intelligent and autonomous swarm system: a Service Deployment Tool, a Context Awareness Manager and a Service Operations Dashboard, among others.

Arvor is a consultancy firm specializing in business development based on research, technology and innovation. With a track record of 20 years and more than 150 clients, they offer a 360º view of business opportunities with market analysis; development of strategic plans, search for financial resources; development of business plans, training and mentoring.

In the Colmena project, Arvor will provide market analysis, so that the developed technology can meet existing needs and compete with future products, as well as a work plan and a strategy for its transfer to the market and commercialization.
